Privacy
This site sets no cookies, runs no advertising and loads no social media scripts. What follows is the information notice required by articles 13 and 14 of the GDPR (Regulation EU 2016/679).
Who is responsible
I am, personally: Daniele Margutti, Rome, Italy. This is a personal site, not a company. You can reach me at daniele.margutti@gmail.com about anything on this page, including the requests listed at the bottom.
What is collected, and why
Server logs. The site is hosted by Vercel, which records the usual technical data for every request: IP address, date and time, the page requested, browser and operating system. It keeps the site running and lets me see abuse or errors. Legal basis: my legitimate interest in operating and securing the site (art. 6.1.f).
Page counts. Vercel Web Analytics counts page views without cookies and without a persistent identifier: it records the page, the referrer and coarse device information, and it does not follow you across sites or build a profile. I can see that a post was read two thousand times. I cannot see that you read it. Legal basis: legitimate interest in knowing which writing is worth continuing (art. 6.1.f).
Your email, if you write to me. Your address and whatever you put in the message stay in my mailbox. I use them to answer you, and for nothing else. Legal basis: my legitimate interest in replying to correspondence you started (art. 6.1.f).
There is no newsletter, no account, no form, no comment section, and no profiling or automated decision making of any kind.
Who else sees it
Only the suppliers that make the site work, acting as data processors: Vercel Inc. (hosting and analytics) and, for the source code, GitHub, Inc. Both are in the United States, and transfers rely on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared with anyone else.
How long it is kept
Server logs and analytics: the retention Vercel applies by default, in the order of weeks. The analytics data is aggregated, so past that point it is no longer about you. Emails: as long as the conversation is useful, then deleted.
What you can ask for
Under articles 15 to 22 of the GDPR you can ask me for access to your data, correction, erasure, restriction or portability, and you can object to processing based on legitimate interest. Write to daniele.margutti@gmail.com and I will answer within a month. In practice there is little to retrieve: without cookies or accounts I have no way to connect a page view to you. If you think I have handled your data badly, you can complain to the Italian supervisory authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
